I'm New to St. Matthew Parish. Where Do I Start?
We at St. Matthews Parish are a faithful and Christ Centred community, located in the neighbourhood of Fleetwood, in the City of Surrey. Guided by the Holy Spirit, we are called to holiness by sharing our joy of the Good News.
Formed in 1983, our brothers and sisters come from many diverse backgrounds, ethnicities and ages. Our parish provides the opportunity to regularly celebrate the Eucharist together along with other sacraments. Ongoing fellowship is encouraged through 32+ interest groups for every stage of life. We also have three thriving Catholic Schools - a pre-school, an Elementary School and a High School.
We continue to share and grow in our love for Jesus is a life-long journey together. We seek to be holistic and inclusive by supporting each other and working together for the betterment of our community within and at large. We strive to be welcoming to those who do not know Jesus, embracing diversity, caring for the needy, serving one another and being strong stewards to our community.
A Christ centred community focused on growing in holiness together.
Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
On behalf of St. Matthew’s Parish, I would like to welcome everyone to this great family of faith! As members of one family, I invite all to feel at home and get yourselves involved in the life of the parish so that you can truly enjoy the love of God being realized in our united community. Everyone of us is blessed with the gifts of time, talent, and treasure. These are entrusted to us to use ultimately for the glory of God and the benefit of all, including ourselves. The question is how are we to use our time, talent and treasure properly?
First, we need to acknowledge that these gifts are from God. Second, we must show our gratitude for them. And third, we should use them wisely by sharing them for the betterment of all, and most of all, for the glory of God. We all have the responsibility to contribute to the building of our parish community by participating in whatever way we can; be it our time by being present for the different activities and events in the parish; or our talent by doing what is asked of us; or our treasure by offering what we can afford.
I trust that by being involved in different ways in the life of our parish, you will find the fullness of joy and peace in this faith community. Let us therefore, use our gifts of time, talent, and treasure to serve and glorify God and build the Kingdom of God in our parish of St. Matthew’s.
If you have been attending the parish for a while but have not yet registered, please take a moment to register. If you have never been to Mass before, or if you haven't gone in a long time, we are excited to have you join us as we celebrate and worship together. We understand that it may feel foreign at first, and that some parts might seem confusing. The last thing we would want is for you to feel unwelcome during the service, so we have created a little guide for you to help you understand the liturgy a little better.
