Dear Parents,

Welcome to the Parish Religious Education Program (PREP) of St. Matthew’s Parish.  Thank you for expressing interest in entrusting the spiritual formation of your child to us.

The PREP program runs from September to May, every Wednesday, from 6:30 pm to 7:45 at St. Matthew’s Elementary School and the Parish Center.  A schedule will be posted on the parish website.  We  also post events/Masses on the parish calendar located on the Main Page. We offer Religious Education (or catechism) for Preschool (3 & 4 year olds – toilet trained) to Grade 7.  Our volunteer catechists will lead your children to understand and share our Catholic faith.

The mission of the Parish Religious Education Program is to assist parents as they raise their children in the Catholic faith, so that these children may more fully participate in the life of the Church, grow in their love and understanding of God, and joyfully journey with Christ our Saviour in the new life He offers to all.

At Baptism, parents make a solemn commitment to raise their children in the practice of the Faith.  Families are expected to participate in the sacramental life of the Church, especially in the Sunday Mass.  Parish catechism cannot replace Christ-centered parenting and authentic faith lived in the domestic church, the Christian family.

Parents support the religious education curriculum by:

  • participating in parent sessions and working with their children at home
  • ensuring children attend class regularly and complete assigned work
  • cooperating with the catechist and the pastor to promote the best learning experience for all, and
  • celebrating Sunday Mass and the sacraments as a family.

 Sincerely,

Fr. Tien Tran, Parish Priest
Christine Maypa, PREP Coordinator
